Ambulance Mental Health Co-Response

The Ambulance Mental Health Co-Response is an innovative service that supports people experiencing mental health crises in the community.

The service enables access to timely care, intervention and support to reduce avoidable emergency department attendances and hospital admissions.

The service offers 2 components:

Virtual triage, assessment and crisis care
Mental health clinicians based at the State Health Operations Centre provide virtual triage, assessment and urgent care to triple zero (000) ambulance callers in the metropolitan area aged 16 years and above, where mental health is the primary cause for concern.
Mobile response

If it is determined someone experiencing a mental health emergency in the community needs face-to-face assistance, a mobile co-response team comprising a mental health clinician and paramedic will be dispatched.

The mobile co-response teams travel in unmarked vehicles and service the North, South and East Metropolitan Health Service catchment areas.

The Ambulance Mental Health Co-Response operates 12pm to 10pm, 7 days a week.

The service operates through a partnership between the Mental Health Commission, the Department of Health, St John WA and East, North and South Metropolitan Health Services.
