Please note there are major changes to selection to training for the 2024 clinical year.
BPT in adult internal medicine
Prospective trainees in 2024 must secure eligible employment with RPBG, SCGOPHCG, FSFHG or an eligible WACHS site prior to applying for BPT.
BPT is now available at the following WACHS sites: Albany, Bunbury, Geraldton and Kalgoorlie.
There are several changes in place for selection to training for the 2024 clinical year. Please ensure you familiarise yourself with these by reading the Application Guide before lodging your application.
Please refer to the 2024 Basic Physician Training Application Guide (PDF 444KB) for more information.

BPT in Paediatrics and Child Health
Entry into the BPT pathway follows a separate application process. To be eligible for this process, candidates seeking to register with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) as a first-year basic paediatric trainee are first required to secure employment for 12 months with PCH as an RMO or a registrar, or secure employment for 12 months with FSH as a paediatric or neonatal RMO/registrar.
Additionally, an offer of employment must be made prior to the BPT Entry into Training application period – for 2024 applicants, the cut-off date is Sunday August 13 2023.
Prospective trainees, who have accepted eligible employment, will be informed of the BPT selection process by PCH Postgraduate Medical Education (PCH PGME).

Service Surgical Registrars
Applications for the 2024 SSR Centralised Recruitment will open on 19 May 2023.
This is advertised on MedJobsWA (external site).
Several aspects of the process have been amended for 2024, please ensure you familiarise yourself with the changes as outlined below.
Applicants still submit one application to cover three site preferences for employment as an SSR.
- Recruitment will follow a centralised application, direct employment model.
- Successful candidates will be employed directly by their highest preferenced Primary Employing Health Service (PEHS).
- NB: this differs from last year where Royal Perth Bentley Group employed all SSRs on behalf of the WA Health system. This year if you are successful, you will be employed directly by your highest preferenced site.
- Applicants are only able to preference the specialties available at their preferenced PEHS, for 6-month rotations on a 12-month contract (unless otherwise negotiated)
- NB: Intra-PEHS rotations are unable to be facilitated through this recruitment process.
- Ensure you review the list of available specialties at each of the PEHS, listed on the Application Guide.
You can access the advertisement on MedJobsWA (external site).
Applications close 20 June 2023 12:00 pm Australian Western Standard Time (AWST).
