Karratha Step Up/Step Down mental health project
The Karratha Step Up/Step Down (SUSD) service is at 2 Gregory Way, Bulgarra. The 6-bed service will provide support for adults experiencing mental health issues in a residential, home-like setting close to community, friends and family in the Pilbara region.
Pilbara Building Company started construction in March 2025, and it reached practical completion in January 2026. For information on service commencement, visit the Mental Health Commission website www.mhc.wa.gov.au/karrathasusd (external site).
SUSD services provide contemporary, therapeutic mental health care through short-term residential support and individualised care, for up to 28 days.
This includes a combination of psychosocial and clinical services, to help people manage their mental health, avoid hospitalisation and live well in their community.
The Department of Health is delivering this project in partnership with the Mental Health Commission and Department of Housing and Works.
Further information on the service, including Frequently Asked Questions, is available at www.mhc.wa.gov.au/karrathasusd (external site)
