Armadale Mental Health Emergency Centre
The Armadale Mental Health Emergency Centre (MHEC) will support enhanced mental health service delivery in the South-East corridor.
The MHEC will provide care for voluntary patients through a mental health short-stay unit.
The model of care has been designed to support the timely transfer of suitable voluntary mental health, alcohol and other drugs (AOD), and toxicology presentations from the ED environment into a dedicated, well-resourced, low-stimulus environment.
The MHEC will:
- provide a purpose-built, therapeutic, low-stimulus environment to support the stabilisation and recovery of consumers with mental health and/or alcohol and other drugs (AOD) presentations
- deliver evidence-based, recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, multidisciplinary acute mental health care.
- support an integrated service approach that recognises the relationship between AOD use and mental health conditions
- support reduced time spent in ED for suitable presentations through access to specialist short-term care
