  • Funding extended to support ongoing delivery of the LiveLighter® (external site) statewide mass media-led healthy lifestyle campaign.
  • Public Health Nutrition Network established to provide a forum and support coordinated, comprehensive approaches to obesity policy and programs across the WA health system.
  • Development of the WA Healthy Weight Action Plan (HWAP) 2019-2024 was completed.
  • The 2021 Health Promotion Inventory launched on 5 September 2021. The inventory details health promotion programs across WA that aim to reduce the burden of chronic disease and injury.
  • Mandatory, systemwide Healthy Options WA Food and Nutrition Policy for WA health system entities strengthened, with metropolitan hospitals quickly adapting to the new requirement to no longer sell sugar sweetened drinks.
  • The Alcohol.Think Again (external site) campaign launched by the Mental Health Commission to raise awareness of the risks associated with alcohol use during pregnancy.
  • Alcohol advertising and promotion on public transport phased-out by the State Government.
  • Aboriginal workforce improvements – essential to delivering culturally appropriate health services and improving the gap in Aboriginal health outcomes by attracting and retaining Aboriginal people to our workforce – including:
    • 38 cadets recruited into the 2021 Aboriginal Cadetship Program; and
    • 31 candidates offered a Nursing and Midwifery position under the GradConnect Program.
  • Climate Health WA Inquiry was released in December 2020. An international first, this statutory inquiry focused on the health impacts of climate change and a blueprint for the WA health system for the next 10 years to adapt to climate change, better protect the health of the community, and for health services to do more to reduce emissions and waste without compromising the quality of patient care.
  • PHAA in partnership with Department of Health held an hour-long webinar in July 2021, on the Sustainable Health Review, its Program, and Enduring Strategy 1 for its members. The webinar focused on the background of the Sustainable Health Review, the Sustainable Health Implementation Support Unit, and Enduring Strategy 1.
