Health promotion

Health promotion embraces actions directed at strengthening the skills and capabilities of individuals and also action directed towards changing social, environmental and economic conditions so as to alleviate their impact on public and individual health.

Health promotion is the process of enabling people to take control over the determinants of their health and thereby improve their health.

At WA Health, the Chronic Disease Prevention Directorate is responsible for health promotion that focuses on tobacco, nutrition, obesity, physical activity and injury prevention.

Effective research and evaluation is a vital step in ensuring that the Western Australian community is benefiting from programs funded and managed through the Department and its partners.
