Yellow fever vaccination

Yellow fever vaccinations can only be administered at approved WA Health Yellow Fever Vaccination Centres (PDF 780KB).

These clinics will provide a vaccination certificate in the form approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO), and completed according to WHO requirements.

Travellers should seek medical advice on vaccination for their individual medical circumstances, particularly about the suitability of yellow fever vaccine for infants, pregnant women and those who are immunocompromised.

Yellow fever vaccination centres and their accredited providers must comply with The National Guidelines for Yellow Fever Vaccination Centres and Providers (external site).

The yellow fever vaccine has international certification requirements (external link) which must be completed in line with the WHO’s International Health Regulations (2005) (external site)

Only approved yellow fever vaccination clinics are issued with a unique Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre number by the WA Department of Health, which authorises the purchase and provision of yellow fever vaccination.

Approved yellow fever vaccination centres must:

• Comply with The National Guidelines for Yellow Fever Vaccination Centres and Providers (external site)
• Ensure that all providers are accredited to administer the yellow fever vaccine by completing the online Yellow Fever Vaccination Course (external site), then subsequently every three years
• Maintain a list of accredited providers at the centre who administer the yellow fever vaccine. To notify WA Department of Health of changes to accredited yellow fever providers, see Changes of Provider or Centre details below.

Yellow fever booklets can only be ordered by WA Health approved centres, locally from Equip Health Systems Pty Ltd (external site) or from the World Health Organisation (external site).

1. Read and review The National Guidelines for Yellow Fever Vaccination Centres and Providers (external site)

2. Complete Attachment A: Application for a Medical Practice to become an Approved Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre (pages 12-14) and Attachment B: Conditions Applying to an Approved Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre (pages 15-17) of the National Guidelines (external site).

3. Send completed forms to vaccineorders@health.wa.gov.au and await confirmation.

A provider seeking to prescribe the yellow fever vaccine at an approved Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre is required to successfully complete the online Yellow Fever Vaccination Course (external site), and subsequently every three years. Once accredited, a provider can administer the yellow fever vaccine for a period of not more than three years from the date of completion of the training course.

The course completion certificate is required by the approved Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre where the provider intends to practice.
