Tobacco control legislation

Western Australia’s tobacco control laws aim to protect public health by reducing harm from tobacco and vaping products (vapes).

The legislation aims to:

  1. Regulate the sale and supply of tobacco products, smoking implements and vaping products
  2. Prohibit supply of illicit tobacco and vapes
  3. Prohibit the supply of tobacco products to people under 18 years old
  4. Restrict the advertising and promotion of tobacco and vapes
  5. Reduce community exposure to second-hand smoke and emissions from vapes

Western Australian legislation:

Commonwealth legislation

Tobacco and vaping products are also regulated nationally under Commonwealth legislation. This includes plain packaging requirements, product standards and ingredients, import and border controls, and regulation of prescription vaping products.
