Artificial Intelligence Policy

Applicable to: This policy is applicable to WA health entities.

Description: The purpose of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy (the policy) is to set the minimum requirements to ensure the responsible, safe, beneficial and effective use of AI technologies within the WA health system.

The policy supports the WA health system vision to deliver a safe, high quality, sustainable health system for all Western Australians.

This policy aligns to and supports the requirements of the following:

This policy applies to any AI use or proposed use, whether it is for individual, corporate, clinical, pilot/trial, training or research purposes, and including free of charge, developed in-house, purchased (buy and train, buy and automate, buy and use), or cloud-based software. It also includes the use of AI on private devices for a WA health entity work-related purpose.

This policy is a mandatory requirement for Health Services Providers under the Information and Communications Technology Policy Framework pursuant to section 26(2)(k) of the Health Services Act 2016.

This policy is also a mandatory requirement for the Department of Health pursuant to section 29 of the Public Sector Management Act 1994.
