Trying to get pregnant – when to seek help
- Talk to your doctor before trying to get pregnant.
- For many people, falling pregnant can take some time.
- If you have been trying to fall pregnant for 12 months or more and you’re under 35, or 6 months or more if you’re over 35, or have any known fertility issues you may wish to talk with your doctor about referral to an in vitro fertilisation (IVF) clinic.
For many people, falling pregnant can take some time. If you’re planning to get pregnant, you may wish to talk with your doctor for a pre-conception consult, particularly if you have a family history of genetic conditions that might impact your fertility. Age and lifestyle factors can also impact how long it takes to fall pregnant.
Once you are trying to get pregnant, try not to worry if it doesn’t happen straight away, however you may wish to talk with your medical practitioner about your options if you have been trying to fall pregnant for:
- 12 months or more and you’re under 35
- 6 months or more if you’re over 35
- if you have any known fertility issues.
