WA Rheumatic Heart Disease Strategic Framework 2026-2036

14 August 2026

The WA Rheumatic Heart Disease Strategic Framework 2026-2036 (Strategic Framework) seeks to eliminate acute rheumatic fever and new cases of rheumatic heart disease in WA by 2036 through Aboriginal-led prevention, equitable care and collaboration.

The Strategic Framework aligns with the national RHD Endgame Strategy which sets out the goal of eliminating rheumatic heart disease in Australia by focusing on 5 priority action areas:

  1. Aboriginal leadership
  2. Community-based programs
  3. Healthy environments
  4. Early prevention
  5. Care and support

The Strategic Framework provides a foundational guide for clinicians, researchers and communities to drive change in relation to acute rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease.
