COVID-19 update – 28 March 2020
The Department of Health has reported 23 new cases of COVID-19 overnight, bringing the State’s total to 278.
The new cases include 16 female and seven males, aged between 22 and 79 years old. Of these new cases, 19 are from metropolitan Perth and four are from regional Western Australia.
The confirmed regional cases include two from the Wheatlbelt, one from the South West and one from the Great Southern.
Of these new cases 16 are passengers from cruise ships including the Artania (9), Voyager of the Seas (4) and Ruby Princess (3).
Five of the cases are from overseas travel other than cruise ships. Contact tracing is still underway on the remaining two cases.
There are currently 14 confirmed COVID-19 patients in Perth metropolitan hospitals, with six in ICU.
The number of recovered cases in WA is now 28.
To date, 12,693 Western Australians have tested negative for COVID-19 – 1,716 of these are from regional WA.
In addition, to assist in the coordination of a whole-of-government approach to the evolving COVID-19 situation, temporary office accommodation is being placed next to the Department of Health on Hill Street, East Perth. This accommodation will be in place from today.
