COVID-19 update – 17 April 2020
The Department of Health has today reported the seventh COVID-19 death in Western Australia.
An Artania cruise ship crew member, in his early 40s, died in Royal Perth Hospital.
There were six new confirmed cases of COVID-19 overnight, bringing the State’s total to 541.
Three of the cases are from metropolitan Perth and three are from overseas or interstate.
Of today’s cases five are directly related to cruise ships – three from the Costa Victoria and two from the Artania. One is linked to overseas travel.
As with all new confirmed cases, contact tracing is underway to ensure all close contacts are notified and advised to self-isolate.
There are 34 confirmed COVID-19 patients in Perth metropolitan hospitals – six of whom are in ICU.
To date, 25,684 Western Australians have tested negative for COVID-19.
WA has a total of 377 recovered cases – 43 of these are in the regions.
