What is the Aboriginal Cadetship Program?
The Aboriginal Cadetship Program offers Aboriginal university students the opportunity to gain paid work experience while completing an undergraduate degree.
Why is the cadetship program on offer?
WA Health is committed to improving the health outcomes of Aboriginal people across Western Australia.
Attracting and retaining Aboriginal people to our diverse and talented workforce is essential to delivering culturally appropriate health services and improving Aboriginal health outcomes.
Am I eligible for the program?
You are eligible to apply for the Aboriginal Cadetship Program if you are:
- able to commit to 52 work days over a 12 month period
- enrolled in a fulltime undergraduate course at a recognised university and have completed at least one semester but with two or more semesters to complete (Fulltime = mininum 3 units per semester)
- identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
Please note: while you are welcome to apply from anywhere in WA, Cadets will be placed in the Metropolitan area at one of the eight Health Services in WA Health.
How long does the program run for?
Cadets will be required to complete 52 days (390 – 395.2 hours) of work placement each calendar year, normally comprising 1 day per week throughout the year.
Program places
Vacancies available for cadetships will vary each year.
