Awards and agreements
WA Health provides a library of industrial awards and agreements that regulate employment in WA's public health system.
Salary packaging
A good way to maximise your disposable income is to take advantage of salary packaging. This simply involves using your pre-tax income, wherever possible, to pay for certain day-to-day expenses, thereby reducing your income tax and increasing disposable income.
Everybody’s personal financial circumstances and incomes are different. Whether you make $30,000 or $130,000, salary packaging allows you the opportunity to make better use of your money. Benefits can include:
- superannuation
- home mortgage repayments or rent
- motor vehicle leases and expenses
- health insurance.
Your employer will be able to provide further information.
Superannuation
Most employees in the WA public health sector are covered by the West State Super Fund, arranged by the Government Employees Superannuation Board (external site). The Western Australian Government provides 9 per cent employer contribution to superannuation.
Taxation
Employees who are not residents of Australia cannot claim the tax-free threshold that Australian residents are entitled to. They must pay tax on every dollar earned. Non-residents may need to apply for a Tax File Number (TFN). As with Australian citizens, if you choose not to provide a TFN tax will be deducted at the maximum rate.
Visit the Australian Taxation Office (external site) for more information.
