Sara Davis

Sara undertook a Doctor of Philosophy at Edith Cowan University. Sara’s research aims to develop a midwifery specific tool to be used to identify potential enablers and barriers to change in the clinical setting.

Zoe Bradfield

Zoe completed a Nursing and Midwifery Doctoral Research Degree at Curtin University. Her research addressed the evidence gap concerning how midwives practicing in the clinical setting understood or experienced the phenomenon of being ‘with woman’.

Jodie Atkinson

Jodie undertook a Masters by Research in Health Professional Education at the University of Western Australia. Jodie's research focuses on WA Midwives’ experience of clinical supervision.

Tracy completed her Masters of Midwifery (Research) at Curtin University entitled an 'Evaluation of the Next Birth After Caesarean (V-BAC) Clinic: An innovative initiative to improve the quality of care to women who have had a caesarean section'.

Ms Kelly Prandl

The fellowship assisted Kelly to undertake a study tour within Australia to collect information on current successful provision of antenatal care for Indigenous women to inform the development of the Boodjar Yorgas Clinic for Indigenous women at Armadale Health Service

Sara completed her Masters of Science where she examined the progress of birthing by planned caesarean section using a grounded theory approach.

Ms Heather Nunan

The fellowship allowed Heather to undertake a study tour of Sweden to explore and investigate how midwifery led models of care with a multidisciplinary context, can help and support pregnant women who experience psychological suffering from intense fear of childbirth.

Natalie Williams

Natalie was awarded funding to undertake a Masters of Philosophy (Nursing and Midwifery) at Curtin University. Natalie’s research was titled 'Nurse's perceptions of providing psychosexual nursing care for women undergoing gynaecological oncology treatment'.

Ellen commenced a combined study tour and research to understand the role of forensics nurse examiner.

Karen Glaister

Funding was awarded to Karen to complete her doctoral studies by research. Her study was titled ‘Self-regulation in diabetes: An exploration of factors that influence its outcomes'.

2006

Louise Horgan

Louise was awarded funding to complete her doctoral studies by research. Her study was titled 'Perceptions of self-efficacy and empowerment among unpaid family carers of acutely ill Hospital in the Home (HITH) patients'.

2005

Hugh Davies

Hugh received funding towards obtaining his PhD by research. His research was titled ‘A randomised comparative crossover study to assess the affect on circuit life of varying pre-dilution volumes associated with Continuous Veno-Venous Haemofiltration (CVVH) and Continuous Veno-Venous Haemodiafiltration (CVVHDF).'

Health Service Innovation Fellowship

Fenella Gill, Child and Adolescent Health Service

Funding was provided to Fenella to research the safety and quality of care based on family healthcare provider partnerships.  The research also investigated alignment with the preferences and healthcare needs of consumers.

Erin’s research is titled ‘Educational intervention on Delirium for Intensive care (ICU) nurses: Can it improve patient management?’ and focuses on the knowledge gap between ICU nurses and evidence-based practice for screening for delirium.

Maria Kim

Maria’s research is titled ‘Women’s Anxiety and Decision-Making Experience After a Previous Caesarean Birth: A Western Australian Mixed Methods Study’.  The study aims to raise awareness of women’s needs in planning future childbirth and offer an opportunity for maternity care professionals to reflect upon shared decision making.

Kirsty studied her Masters in Health Professions Education at Curtin University.  Her research was titled ‘Providing students with written feedback: An interpretive phenomenological study exploring the perspectives of Midwives and Student Midwives’.

Victoria Warwick

Victoria undertook a Professional Doctorate in Nursing at The University of Notre Dame. Victoria's doctorate focused on perioperative nurses' perception of the barriers and enablers in undertaking the surgical count: A mixed methods study.

Sheralee undertook a Doctor of Philosophy. Her study was titled ‘The lived experience of nursing leadership from the perspective of nurse executives within public health services in WA; a phenomenological study.’

Ulrich completed a Doctor of Philosophy. His study was titled, ‘Do ultrasound measurements of the inferior vena cave (IVC-US) by nursing staff improve assessment and management of intravascular volume status in the satellite haemodialysis clinic settings?’

Peter completed his Master of Health Services Management. His research project looked into the Australian aged care system in terms of care needs and preferences, staff retention and employee satisfaction.

Carolyn completed her Doctor of Nursing. The aim of Carolyn’s research study was to evaluate models of care in acute metropolitan hospitals across Australia. She plans on conducting this study in three distinct phases.

Eric’s research ‘Facilitating cultural change in acute mental health inpatient settings: How do mental health nurses’ beliefs, attitudes, knowledge and skills influence the rate of consumer aggression’ focuses on the area of mental health recovery.  The research is supporting new models of nursing practice.

Debra’s research ‘Evaluating the Hospital Emergency Response – Obstetrics study day for staff confidence in obstetric emergencies’ determines if the Hospital Emergency Response prepares staff to effectively recognise and manage an obstetric emergency.

Christine’s research ‘Promoting Student Belongingness – The development, implementation and evaluation of a toolkit for nurses’ looked at the overall performance of the toolkit which was distributed to nurses in selected clinical areas for se during periods of clinical placements.

Peter’s research is titled ‘Reducing peripheral intravenous catheter failure in the ED and beyond’.  The study looked at whether evidence-based APCD guide clinicians into making adjustments to their choice of PIVC insertion technique, site selection and device selection in order to reduce fail rates.
