Free influenza vaccine program May and June 2026

From 1 May to 30 June 2026, participating immunisation providers can administer state-funded influenza vaccines to people aged 12 to 64 years who are not otherwise eligible for an influenza vaccine under the National Immunisation Program (NIP). Persons without a Medicare card and those travelling to Western Australia, are also eligible for a vaccine under the Free Influenza Vaccine Program (the program).

General practices (GPs), community pharmacies, Aboriginal Medical Services, nurse practitioner clinics, corporate vaccination service providers and community health immunisation clinics may all participate in the Program.

In 2026, Fluzone® is the influenza vaccine available to providers participating in the program. Influenza vaccines ordered for the Free Influenza Vaccine Program should not be administered to NIP-eligible people, and vice-versa.

A table summarising the vaccine brands and cohorts they are allocated to under the NIP and state programs can be viewed as a table on the Influenza immunisation page.

Please note:

  • All influenza vaccines administered must be recorded onto the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR).
  • Influenza stock ordered through the Program (i.e. Fluzone®) should only be used for those not eligible for NIP or other state-funded influenza vaccines. Additionally, NIP-funded influenza vaccines can only be used for NIP eligible people, in accordance with the current WA Immunisation Schedule.

Eligibility

Persons eligible for the Program are:

  • people aged 12 to 64 years, not otherwise eligible for NIP-funded influenza vaccines
    • persons without a Medicare card
    • interstate or international visitors.

Ordering vaccines

Vaccines for the program can be ordered via the Onelink portal (external site).

Immunisation providers without a Onelink account can apply for an account using the Onelink account application form. More information is available on the Vaccine Ordering webpage.

Pharmacy payment information

The 2026 Community Pharmacy Immunisation Payment Program (CPIPP) will provide payments to community pharmacies in WA for administration of Government-funded influenza and RSV vaccines that are not covered under the National Immunisation Program Vaccination in Pharmacy (NIPVIP), including the Free Influenza Vaccine Program 2026.

In 2026, the CPIPP is being coordinated by the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, WA Branch.

For further information about the CPIPP, please visit: https://www.guild.org.au/guild-branches/wa/cpipp.

For any queries about the CPIPP, please contact freeflu@wa.guild.org.au.

Corporate vaccination service providers payment information

Under the 2026 Free Influenza Vaccine Program, the WA Department of Health is offering a payment of $20.05 (excl. GST) per state-funded influenza vaccine (Fluzone®) administered to eligible persons by corporate vaccination service (CVS) providers, that are registered for the Program.

A CVS provider is defined as ‘a private for-profit organisation’ that is usually contracted to administer vaccines on behalf of another entity, such as administration of workplace influenza vaccines, as per vaccination provider type definitions outlined by Services Australia (external site).

Please note: The Free Influenza Vaccine Program 2026 does not provide payment for the administration of National Immunisation Program (NIP)-funded or privately purchased influenza vaccines, or payment to CVS providers which are not registered for the Program.

Registration

Invitations to register for the 2026 Free Influenza Vaccine Program have been sent to CVS providers with Onelink accounts. Registrations close 5.00 pm Thursday 30 April 2026.

CVS providers that wish to participate but do not have a Onelink account are advised to create a Onelink (external link) account and request a registration link from influenza.reimbursement@health.wa.gov.au.

Claiming and payment

Registered CVS providers will receive an email on the following dates with an online form to submit a payment claim:

  • Tuesday 2 June 2026, for vaccinations administered during May
  • Wednesday 1 July 2026, for vaccinations administered during June.

Claim deadline dates:

  • 5.00 pm Wednesday 10 June 2026, for vaccinations administered in May
  • 5.00 pm Wednesday 8 July 2026, for vaccinations administered in June.

To make payment claims online, CVS providers will need to:

  1. report the number of Fluzone® administered to eligible persons aged 12 to 64 years in WA who are not otherwise eligible for an influenza vaccine under the NIP.
  2. upload one invoice for the total number of Fluzone® administered to all eligible persons in that month, noting:
  • $20.05 excl. GST is payable for the administration of a Fluzone®
  • invoice numbers must be unique and not have been submitted to the WA Department of Health previously
  • if invoices have incomplete or incorrect details (such as a repeated invoice number), the WA Department of Health will request corrected information or a new invoice
  • CVS providers will have 14 days to provide this information or reimbursement claims will be rejected and no payment will be made.

Record keeping

Records of state-funded Fluzone® vaccines administered during the month of May and June must be maintained by the provider in the event of a WA Department of Health audit.

These records must include age of recipient, vaccine brand, date of vaccine administration, and AIR provider number. These records will not be required to be submitted as part of the payment process.
