Food premises design and construction

The Department of Health Food Unit uses Safe Food Australia – a guide to food safety standards (external site), which provides good guidance to food businesses.

The Australian Standard 4674-2004: Construction and fit out of food premises (external site) provides a 'best practice' guide to fit-out and construction.

A number of local governments have used this Standard to provide guidance to food businesses, particularly during the initial design stage.
