Use this style for body content (Microsoft Word ‘normal’ style). This is usually the default style in Word.
Remember to make your key points in the opening paragraph or two – don’t leave your most important information at the bottom of your article!
Plan the reader’s journey – what steps do they need to take, and in what order?
Second level headings are Heading 2
Third level headings are Heading 3
Fourth level headings are Heading 4
Do not bold for subheadings – please use the pre-set style headings (above).
Italics are only used for:
- titles (when citing texts such as books, journals, pamphlets, newspapers, CDs, film)
- scientific Latin terms
- Acts of Parliament.
Do not use italics for emphasis, headings or subheadings, or quotations. For more information see p54 WA Health Writing Style Guide
Use meaningful hyperlink text. For example, Read more about HACC complaints management rather than inserting the
web address (URL) .
External links can be to:
- the Healthy WA site – link text reads as article title (Healthy WA)
- the old WA Health site – link text reads as article title (external site)
- a third party external site – link text reads Diabetes WA (external site).
Use bullet lists and numbered lists when appropriate.
