Description: This Policy describes the minimum requirements for the routine screening and the subsequent management of patients identified with Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) in WA healthcare facilities (HCFs).
Infection Prevention and Control of Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) in Western Australian Healthcare Facilities
Compliance with this Policy is mandatory for all public hospitals and those private healthcare facilities, including satellite haemodialysis units, contracted to provide services to public patients.
This Policy minimum requirements for the routine screening and subsequent management of patients identified with carbapenemase–resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) in Western Australian (WA) healthcare facilities (HCFs). All acute care HCFs shall ensure their procedures are aligned with those described in the attached document Infection Prevention and Control of Carbapenem–resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) in Western Australian Healthcare Facilities. Guidance for the management of CRE‑positive patients in residential care facilities (RCFs) is also provided, with the expectation that WA RCFs will comply with the precautions described in the Guidelines.
