For health professionals
Falls are one of the most serious issues affecting the independence of seniors in Western Australia. In the next year:
- 1 out of 3 people over the age of 65 will fall
- Of those, one third will require medical attention
- Of those needing medical attention, 1 in 4 people will be hospitalised
Falls for people aged 65 years and over cost the health system $83 million in 2001–02, about 1.5% of the total health expenditure in Western Australia.
