If you are a smoker and are admitted to a hospital as an inpatient you will be assessed for nicotine dependence. You may be offered nicotine replacement therapy as appropriate to manage cravings and other physical effects of nicotine withdrawal. You will also be given information about support and services to help you to make a decision to quit or to keep smoking.
If you are a smoker attending an outpatient appointment or a visitor at the hospital please be aware you will not be able to smoke at the hospital or in the grounds, including car parks. You will need to make sure that you can cope without smoking during your visit.
If you want support to quit then call the Quitline 13 QUIT (13 7848) or talk to you doctor or pharmacist for more information.
