In 1996, the Department of Health in Western Australia established the Office of Aboriginal Health. Vision: To improve the health status of the Aboriginal peoples of Western Australia to the standard of the general population Roles of the Office of Aboriginal Health Policy: Working in partnership to promote effective approaches and strategies for the mainstream and the Aboriginal community controlled sectors of the health system. Planning: Working in partnership with the Commonwealth Office of Aborginal and Torres Strait Islander, the Aboriginal community controlled health sector, and the Aboriginal communities to plan for the delivery and development of health services. Funding: Contracting a range of environmental health, primary health care, alcohol and drug, and social and emotional wellbeing services for Aboriginal communities, often in partnership with the Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health. The Office of Aboriginal Health can assist agencies and staff to improve health service delivery to Aboriginal people through advise, planning and partnership development. |
