PathWest, Laboratory Medicine WA, is the single public pathology service in Western Australia. PathWest was created on the 15 July 2005 and is headed by a Chief Executive Dr Peter Flett, a Chemical Pathologist.
The pathology laboratories at Royal Perth Hospital, Fremantle Hospital, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (previously PathCentre), remote and rural laboratories and the merged pathology services at King Edward Memorial and Princess Margaret Hospitals were merged forming the new entity.
The primary focus for this single pathology service is standardisation of equipment, methodology and rationalisation of testing, yet maintaining its current commitment to service.
