Elderly Health

Help, support and care are available to older people through community care organisations, hospitals and residential facilities. Many community care groups provide in-home care.

In cases where in-home care is not possible, alternatives are available.

Your doctor can provide information and arrange services.

AGED CARE ASSESSMENT

Aged Care Assessment Teams determine the best care options including rehabilitation, community care or residential care (including nursing homes).

These services are available in metropolitan and country areas and are usually located in hospitals.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Services are available under the Home and Community Care Program to help frail older people stay living at home.

These include home help and personal care such as bathing and dressing, meal delivery and home maintenance.

A large network of private and community organisations provide these services.

Details on these services and eligibility are available from the Home and Community Care Program listed in this section.

ALTERNATIVE RESIDENTIAL ACCOMMODATION

Information about nursing homes, aged care hostels and retirement villages is available in the DPS Guide to Aged Care, available from the Commonwealth Carelink Centres, Tel: 1800 052 222.

SPECTACLES SUBSIDY SCHEME

The WA Spectacle Subsidy Scheme assists with the purchase of a complete pair of prescribed spectacles or lenses by providing a fifty percent subsidy of the total cost to a maximum of $50. This assistance is available once every two years, subject to eligibility criteria. Information is available from the Spectacle Subsidy Scheme listed in this section.

AIDS AND APPLIANCES

The Community Aids and Equipment program provides aids and equipment to people with long-term and permanent disabilities living in the community, subject to eligibility criteria.

Information is available from the Disability Services Commission section.
