2012 MHRIF Award Recipients (Round 16)
New Independent Researcher Infrastructure Support (NIRIS) Awards

Application Details – 2013
The Department of Health has made funding available to provide one-off New Independent Researcher Infrastructure Support (NIRIS) Awards in 2013 and is now accepting applications.
NIRIS Awards of up to $10,000 each are available and will be awarded on competitive merit.
These awards are for infrastructure costs associated with health and medical research programs for a period of twelve months commencing in the 2013 calendar year.
Applicants must have:
- been an active independent researcher over a maximum period of eight years full time or equivalent;
- been awarded a Doctorate or other appropriate tertiary qualifications within the preceding eight years or equivalent; and
- have a demonstrated reputation as an outstanding new independent researcher.
Applications must be in accordance with the conditions described in the NIRIS 2013 Guidelines for Applicants (PDF 43KB). Applicants must use the NIRIS 2013 Application Form (MS Word 391KB).
Late applications will not be accepted. Check with the administering and finance officers at your institution(s) for internal deadlines.

SHRAC Research Translation Projects (RTP)

Application Details - 2013 (Round 7)
The Department of Health has made funding available for a further round of SHRAC Research Translation Projects and is now accepting applications.
Researchers can investigate, for example, alternative service delivery models or clinical interventions that may:
- increase the flow of patients through health services; and/or
- decrease service costs.
Applications from persons in the clinical service delivery environment are encouraged, as are multidisciplinary and cross-institution collaborations.
Projects must be completed within 24 months with a final report (including the economic evaluation) submitted by 9 November 2015.
Projects may be funded up to $270,000 and will be awarded on competitive merit.
Applications are invited for SHRAC Research Translation Projects in accordance with the conditions described in the 2013 Guidelines for Applicants. Applicants must use the 2013 Application Form provided.

2012 SHRAC RTP Recipients (Round 6)
Targeted Research Fund (TRF)

Application Details – 2012 (Round 2)
The Department of Health has made funding available for a second round of the Targeted Research Fund and is now accepting applications.
The research activities that may be funded under the TRF are anticipated to be wide-ranging, and could include, without being limited to, areas such as:
- Public health issues of particular significance to the WA community
- Patient–focussed healthcare delivery along the continuum of care
- Health system organisation, financing and access
- Emerging health risks
- Rural, remote and Aboriginal health.
Applications from persons in the clinical service delivery environment are encouraged, as are multidisciplinary and cross-institution collaborations. Project selection will be based on competitive merit.
Projects can be awarded up to $400,000 and must be completed within 36 months. This period should include obtaining ethics and governance approvals, data collection and submission of the final report, which is due on or before 19 August 2016.
Applications are invited for research projects in accordance with the conditions described in the Targeted Research Fund (TRF) 2012 (Round 2) Application Pack (PDF 614KB). The Application Form (Word 451KB) is included in the Application Pack and is provided as a separate MS Word document.

Telethon-New Children's Hospital Research Fund (TNCHRF)

Application Details – 2012
The Department of Health and the Channel 7 Telethon Trust have jointly established the Telethon-New Children's Hospital Research Fund, which will fund short-term research projects that focus on the health of children and adolescents in WA.
Applications for research project funding are now being accepted.
The research activities that may be funded under the TNCHRF can include basic, clinical, health service, or population health research. Research activities may include areas such as:
- Public health issues of particular significance to children and adolescents in WA;
- Patient–focused healthcare delivery along the continuum of care for children and adolescents;
- Health system organisation, financing and access that impact on child and adolescent health;
- Emerging health risks for children and adolescents;
- Rural, remote and Aboriginal child health;
- Neonatal care;
- Basic research e.g. laboratory based research into child and adolescent health issues.
Project selection will be based on competitive merit, and projects can be awarded up to an amount of $250,000, and must be completed within no more than 24 months. This period should include obtaining ethics and governance approvals, data collection and submission of the final report, which is due on or before 26 October 2015.
Applications are invited for research projects in accordance with the conditions described in the Telethon-New Children's Hospital Research Fund (TNCHRF) 2012 Application Pack (PDF 1.1MB).
