Criminal Record Screening

A Criminal Record Screening Policy Statement and supporting Operational Guidelines was endorsed by the Commissioner of Health and became operative on the 1st of March 1998.

This policy has since been reviewed with the current Criminal Record Screening Policy and Guidelines becoming effective on January 2001.

All Boards of Management across the Government Health Industry have adopted the same or a similar Policy Statement.

The purpose of the Policy is to assist the Government Health Industry to acquit its 'duty of care' towards our clients by taking all reasonable steps to protect them from harm.

It is important to read both documents carefully, with particular reference to the definition of what constitutes a serious conviction for the purposes of the Policy, the principles that will be applied in all instances where a serious conviction is detected and the grievance resolution processes.

The policy makes reference to a 100 points identification check. This check does NOT apply to everyone. You will be notified if it applies to you by you employer, agency or University.
