NATIONAL CRIME STATISTICS
- Between one in three, to one in 10, adult women experience at least one episode of FDV.
- 4 per cent of relationships experience ongoing chronic violence.
- 46 per cent of all female homicide victims are killed by their spouse.
- Up to and sometimes over 50 per cent of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are victims of family violence and child abuse.
- In most states, over 70 per cent of assaults on ATSI women have been carried out by their husbands and boyfriends (Through Black Eyes).
Aboriginal women comprise almost 50 per cent of all women in gaol in Australia and a high percentage are in gaol for having killed someone who has been violent to them.
