This report is primarily concerned with the health of the people of Western Australia (WA) and covers demography, risk factors for poor health, health service issues, morbidity, mortality, and the National and State health priority areas.

Using a number of key indicators, the following sections summarise recent health trends. The statistics are the most recent, but may not always reflect the reporting period (1996-97). This year national data are incorporated into the report.
