Executive Office

Aim:

To deliver public health policy and practice to world’s best standards; manage health risk and provide authoritative public health information; provide excellent support to health care managers on public health issues; and deliver public health programs and products which meet or exceed national and international benchmarks.

This is achieved through four main program areas: Disease Control, Environmental Health, Health Promotion and Women’s Cancer Screening Service.

The Office of the Executive Director of Public Health is responsible for the administration of health related legislation (see Enabling Legislation).

During the year the General Manager of Public Health also held the role of Executive Director of Public Health.

Achievements

  • The Principal Medical Officer, Environmental Health, oversaw the decommissioning of hospital incinerators throughout the State following the introduction of stringent requirements in February 1996 by the Department of Environmental Protection.
  • The Executive Director of Public Health, in consultation with the Rottnest Island Authority, drew up a ‘Strategic Health Plan’ to ensure a more planned approach to health for the island.
