Mosquito control community information sessions

WA Health is inviting communities along the Swan and Canning Rivers to participate in information sessions on the proposed use of helicopters in mosquito control programs.

WA Health Senior Scientific Officer Amber Douglas said helicopters could be used as an alternative to or in addition to current ground-based control methods.

"Helicopters have been used to control mosquitoes in the southwest of WA for many years.

"While a helicopter can access mosquito breeding sites that are very difficult and dangerous to access on foot, we also need to consider the impact of a helicopter flying low over mosquito breeding wetlands and any adjacent houses."

WA Health works with local governments in the metropolitan area to manage mosquitoes including the Towns of Bassendean and Victoria Park and the Cities of Bayswater, Belmont, Canning, Melville, Nedlands, Perth, South Perth, Subiaco, Swan and Vincent.
