Patterns of Service Use for People who have had a Psychiatric Admission in Westen Australian Hospitals
This study, funded by the Western Australian Department of Health, is being jointly undertaken by the Centre and the University of Western Australia. The project has two components:
- Constructing a Database
The first stage is to establish a linked database of the health history of people admitted to a psychiatric inpatient facility during the years 1990 to 2008 to enable analyses of annual inpatient demand and trends in demand. Linking the data to a range of health databases will also enable further research to be undertaken to improve our understanding of the use of other health services by this cohort, including community mental health services, general hospital inpatient and Emergency Departments.
- High Hospital Use
The second stage, based on database constructed in phase 1, is a specific study of the patterns of psychiatric inpatient use by high hospital users.
