| I
would like to welcome you to the Review’s website.
The purpose of this website is to provide interested
people with access to information regarding the progress
of the Review.
The purpose of this review is consider the operations
and effectiveness of the Mental Health Act (1996)
and the Criminal Law (Mentally Impaired Defendants)
Act (1996) and make recommendations as to alterations
in the legislation. The Minister for Health and the
Attorney General have commissioned me, as the Chairperson,
to conduct this review. The Review was officially launched
in July 2002 and is anticipated to conclude in October
2003.
I believe it is important to encourage everyone to
be as informed as possible about this Review. Both Acts
are important pieces of legislation, which affect the
lives of many people in our community.
On this website you will find the Review’s Terms
of Reference, minutes of meetings, newsletters, copies
of legislation, a range of resource documents and links
to other sites. In the future other documents will also
be posted.
I would encourage you to provide us with feedback regarding
