Delivering a Healthy WA
Mandatory reporting of child sexual abuse

Frequently asked questions

Should I tell the child’s parents or carers that I am going to make or have made a report?

Yes, in most cases this is good practice. However, if you are concerned that the child or yourself may be at increased risk of harm if the parents or carers are informed that a report will be made, then this information should not be revealed.

You may wish to seek support from your supervisor or line manager. You can call the Department for Child Protection Mandatory Reporting Service on 1800 708 704 about the best way of discussing with the client and/or their carers your obligation to make a mandatory report.
