Frequently asked questions
Will I get called or subpoenaed to go to court if I make a report?
Possibly. The report may be used by the Department for Child Protection or the Police as part of a further investigation into the welfare of a child. If the investigation results in court proceedings, a subpoena may be issued requiring you to provide evidence to the court.
In this event, you may obtain further information on appearing as a witness from WA Health Legal and Legislative Services, phone (08) 9222 4038 .
It is important that all reports to the Department for Child Protection be properly stored.
