Role
The Data Collections and Analysis - Inpatient and Mental Health manages and develops two of Western Australia’s most significant statewide health data collections, the Hospital Morbidity Data System (HMDS) and the Mental Health Information System (MHIS).
These Collections date back to 1966 in the case of the MHIS and 1970 for HMDS.
The Branch provides a service to internal Departmental clients, external users including government and researchers, and members of the public.
The Department of Health is signatory to the Australian Health Care Agreement and the National Health Information Agreement and under these agreements is required to meet related reporting obligations. The branch reports Morbidity, Mental Health and Elective Surgery data nationally.
The Branch facilitates access to data for approved users and has responsibility for ensuring confidentiality of personal health information.
