Ambulatory / Non-inpatient Care
Ambulatory Care Reforms
The Health Reform Committee's final report (Reid report) "A Healthy Future for Western Australia" provided a long-term vision for the future of health care in Western Australia and sets out a plan for major health reform.
The Reid report recommended several Ambulatory Care reform initiatives to reduce inappropriate and unnecessary use of inpatient hospital care. WA Health is currently implementing a number of ambulatory care programs to provide more community-based nursing and allied health services.
Healthy@Home
Healthy@Home is WA Health’s community-based services (often called ambulatory care) that help patients manage their health, maintain their independence, and stay out of hospital. The services provided help prevent people from unnecessarily entering hospital and assist people exiting hospital sooner. It involves doctors, specialists and allied health professionals and usually, this care takes place at the patient’s home, in the community or in another setting such as a doctor’s clinic.
