RPH puts new herpes vaccine to test

Royal Perth Hospital is participating in an international trial of a new vaccine for genital herpes.

The hospital’s genitourinary medicine unit has been allocated 60 places out of a pool of 6,500 healthy volunteers worldwide.

Participants must be at least 18 years of age, healthy, with no previous history of genital herpes.

People who have partners with genital herpes are ideal subjects, while pregnant women and people with certain medical conditions, such as immune deficiency or liver or kidney disease, are not eligible to participate.

Further details are available from Dr Jenny McCloskey or Dr James Flexman at RPH on (09) 224 2244.

People interested in participating in the study can contact trial nurses Michael Robinson or Laila Mills on (09) 224 2178.
