The South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) is the fastest growing health service in Western Australia, delivering high quality, safe and effective hospital and health services for the Perth south metropolitan community.
The south metropolitan catchment area covers almost 5000 km2 with a population of almost 840 000, of whom 1.8 per cent are Aboriginal. Our population represents more than 35 per cent of Western Australia’s total and is projected to increase to more than 1 million by 2020.
The South Metropolitan Health Service Governing Council came into effect on 1 July 2012 in conjunction with the SMHS. Historical information and 2011/12 financial year information relates to the former South Metropolitan Area Health Service (SMAHS).
