Elective Surgery and Outpatient Reporting

This page contains reports which provide information about elective surgery wait lists (ESWLs) that are maintained by public hospitals in Western Australia (WA). Only the three most recent ESWL monthly reports are listed on the website as each contains a historical breakdown of data published in earlier reports, whereas ESWL quarterly reports from the March 2008 quarter are listed.

Reports concerning outpatient activity at metropolitan teaching hospitals are also available, with quarterly reporting commencing in the March quarter 2009 and monthly reporting commencing in July 2009. Only the three most recent monthly outpatient reports are listed on the website, whereas quarterly reports from the March quarter 2009 are listed.

Quarterly ESWL reports

Quarterly reporting of ESWL activity commenced with the release of the report for the March 2008 quarter.

These reports provide quarterly breakdown from the March 2008 quarter about the total number of cases, admissions and duration of time on ESWLs at public hospitals in WA as part of a national scheme to reduce the number of people on wait lists. Reports include details of admissions from wait lists according to specialty and procedure broken down by individual public hospitals in the Perth metropolitan area and for WA Country Health Service (WACHS) region as a whole.

To access similar quarterly reports from other states and territories, go to the Commonwealth Government's Elective Surgery Waiting List Reduction Plan (external website).

Monthly ESWL reports

Monthly reporting of ESWL activity commenced with the release of a report for October 2006 for metropolitan public hospitals and a report for August 2007 for WACHS public hospitals. Separate reporting of the ambulatory surgery initiative (ASI) commenced with the release of a report for July 2008.

From July 2009 publication commenced of a combined report which contained data from these three previous separate reports, as well as additional information involving other performance indicators.

Reports provide a monthly breakdown from July 2006 about the total number of persons and duration of time on ESWLs, admissions from ESWLs and the number of ASI cases at all public hospitals in WA, at public hospitals in the Perth metropolitan area (including the Joondalup Health Campus and the Peel Health Campus) and at public hospitals in the WACHS.

Each report contains quarterly summary data from the March 2007 quarter of counts of attendances at metropolitan teaching hospitals, in relation to first, new and follow up appointments, as well as did not attend (DNA) appointments.

In addition to summary information concerning waiting time, there is also a detailed breakdown by specialty provided for each hospital.
