Elective Surgery and Outpatient Reporting

This page contains monthly and quarterly reports about health system activity related to elective surgery wait lists (ESWLs) at public hospitals in Western Australia (WA) and outpatient activity at Perth metropolitan public teaching hospitals.

Only the three most recent monthly ESWL and outpatient activity reports are listed on the website as each contains a historical breakdown of data published in earlier reports, whereas all quarterly reports in relation ESWL activity (from the March 2008 quarter) and outpatient activity (from the March quarter 2009) are available from the website.

1. ESWL activity reporting

1.1 Quarterly ESWL reports

Quarterly reporting of ESWL activity commenced with the release of the report for the March 2008 quarter.

These reports provide quarterly breakdown about the total number of cases, admissions and duration of time on ESWLs at public hospitals in WA as part of a national scheme to reduce the number of people on wait lists. Reports include details of admissions from wait lists according to specialty and procedure broken down by individual public hospitals in the Perth metropolitan area and for WA Country Health Service (WACHS) region as a whole.

To access similar quarterly reports from other states and territories, go to the Commonwealth Government's Elective Surgery Waiting List Reduction Plan (external website).

1.2 Monthly ESWL reports

Separate monthly reporting of ESWL activity commenced in October 2006 for metropolitan public hospitals, in August 2007 for WACHS public hospitals and in July 2008 for the ambulatory surgery initiative (ASI). Since July 2009 a combined report has replaced the three previous separate reports, which has included additional information involving other performance indicators.

Reports provide a monthly breakdown from July 2006 about the total number of persons and duration of time on ESWLs, admissions from ESWLs and the number of ASI cases at all public hospitals in WA, at public hospitals in the Perth metropolitan area (including the Joondalup Health Campus and the Peel Health Campus) and at public hospitals in the WACHS.

2 Outpatient activity reporting

2.1 Quarterly outpatient reports

Monthly reporting of outpatient activity services commenced in July 2009.

Each report provides monthly summary information from January 2007 of counts of attendances at metropolitan teaching hospitals, in relation to first, new and follow up appointments, as well as DNA appointments.
