Insertion of the IV cannula
To be able to insert an IV cannula you will be required to be practicing as an RN or EN and complete a competency assessment. As a student you will observe and assist in the insertion. Equipment required for insertion of IV cannula:
- skin prep solution and dressing pack
- cannula
- 5 mL syringe - for flushing cannula
- normal saline for injection 5 mL
- IV site dressing
- leur lock one way valve or IV primed IV line
