Delivering a Healthy WA

Notification and clinical summaries

What is it?

The notification and clinical summaries project (NaCS) will deliver discharge summaries and other clinical summary systems, via a portal or alternative secure method as requested by the health care providers.

The program will replace existing legacy systems and deliver improved functionality that includes the ability to store and retrieve discharge summaries. A statewide system, it will be consistent with National E-Health Transition Authority (NEHTA) standards.

Delivery date

Implementation of the new platform will commence in 2010 after a proof of concept implementation in late 2009.

Vision

The future state for notification and clinical summaries:

  • Will have an integrated and complete view of consumer health information at the point of care
  • Will be able to share information electronically in a timely and secure manner across different geographic locations and all parts of the health sector
  • Will have access to data that allows them to more effectively monitor and evaluate service delivery outcomes
  • Providers’ care decisions will be supported by access to appropriate information sources and decision support tools at the point of care
  • Will be able to collaborate with other professionals by more easily sharing expertise and evidence

Key milestone delivery

The project is currently in the early planning stages, and key milestones will be published as soon as the project initiation stage is complete.
