Christmas and Cocos Islands Ė District and Travel Allowance
The Department of Commerce has issued Circular to Departments and Authorities No. 17 of 2011 which provides notification of adjustments to the district and travelling allowances for Christmas and Cocos Islands.
The Circular is reproduced below:
Travelling allowances for Christmas and Cocos Islands have been reviewed and adjusted. The new rates are effective from the first pay period commencing on or after the dates provided below:
Incidental expenses and meal reimbursements are calculated in accordance with items 2 and 13 of Schedule I – Travelling, Transfer and Relieving Allowance of the Public Service Award 1992 (PSA).
District Allowance for Christmas Island
The district allowance for Christmas Island has been adjusted in accordance with the official Perth Consumer Price Index as published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics for the twelve months preceding the end of the March quarter of the relevant year.
The new district allowance rates are effective from the first pay period commencing on or after the dates provided in the following table:
This Circular does not apply to awards and agreements that contain a district allowance for Christmas Island. In these circumstances the allowance should only be varied in accordance with the provisions of the relevant awards and agreements.
The methodology for calculating district allowance rates for employees working on Christmas Island is currently under review. Any changes in the methodology will be reflected in a replacement to this Circular.
Only employees employed at the date this Circular is issued are entitled to the district and travelling allowance increases. The rates provided may require agencies to adjust payments made since the first pay period commencing on or after July 2009.
