Description: The WA Health Phased Retirement Policy and Guidelines were developed in consultation with key stakeholders across Health. The policy aligns with the WA Government’s Mature Age Employment Strategy that promotes initiatives to boost the workforce participation of mature age people and help address current and future shortages of skilled labour. WA Health promotes flexible and responsive work practices that assist mature age employees to balance their work and personal life responsibilities and encourages a phased approach to retirement A collaborative and cooperative approach between managers and employees to negotiate phased retirement options will ensure that operational needs and individual employee’s circumstances are met.

WA Health Phased Retirement Policy and Guidelines

The WA Health Phased Retirement Policy and Guidelines were developed in consultation with key stakeholders across Health.  The policy aligns with the WA Government’s Mature Age Employment Strategy that promotes initiatives to boost the workforce participation of mature age people and help address current and future shortages of skilled labour.

WA Health promotes flexible and responsive work practices that assist mature age employees to balance their work and personal life responsibilities and encourages a phased approach to retirement. 

A collaborative and cooperative approach between managers and employees to negotiate phased retirement options will ensure that operational needs and individual employee’s circumstances are met.

The policy and guidelines apply to all persons employed within WA Health, which incorporates the following entities:

  • The Department of Health
  • Metropolitan Health Services 
  • Peel Health Service
  • WA Country Health Service.

It is the responsibility of managers to ensure that all staff have access to a copy of the policy and guidelines.  Employees who have any queries about this policy are to contact their supervisor or manager.  Managers or supervisors with queries should contact their Human Resources Branch.
