Implementation of the National Inpatient Medication Chart
This policy directive specifies the use of the National Inpatient Medication Chart (NIMC) for inpatients across all WA public health care facilities.
The NIMC was developed by the Austalian Council for Safety and Quality in Health Care and endorsed for national implementation by Australian Health Ministers in April 2004.
The NIMC was developed following:
The following Health Service staff are to be informed of this policy:
The implementation of the NIMC does not preclude the use of additional charts or high-risk medication charts (eg. insulin, anticoagulation, palliative care, chemotherapy etc) where appropriate.
Guidelines for the use of the NIMC have been produced and are available on the NIMC website (www.health.wa.gov.au/nimc). A number of additional resources to assist Health Services with implementation are also available on the NIMC website.
Recommending a change to the NIMC
Dr Neale Fong
