Prevention of Bullying in the Workplace
The Department of Health Prevention of Bullying in the Workplace Policy and Guidelines were developed in consultation with key stakeholders across Health, in accordance with the 'Department of Health's Human Resource Policy Development Framework' (the Framework). The policy was endorsed by the State Health Management Team on 7 April 2004. The Guidelines have been developed as an optional resource.
The policy provides employees and managers with information on how to prevent, manage or resolve incidents of bullying behaviour, to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
Workplace bullying constitutes a breach of the Public Sector Code of Ethics, Codes of Conduct and relevant legislation and will not be tolerated in the Department of Health. Instances of bullying will be taken seriously and may result in termination.
This policy applies to all persons employed within the Department of Health, which incorporates the following entities:
This is a system wide policy and supersedes all polices related to workplace bullying in the Department of Health.
The Workplace Policy and Standards Branch and local Human Resource Services are responsible for the implementation of this policy. The Human Resource Management Committee has identified the minimum implementation requirements for this policy as Steps 1 - 6 as contained in the Framework. They are as follows:
