About circulars

WA Health uses Operational Directives and Information Circulars to inform staff and others of statewide policies, guidelines and frameworks that are applicable within the public health system. Any documents that contain material which is expected to be understood and complied with by relevant staff are issued as an Operational Directives and Information Circulars. All areas within the public health system are expected to implement relevant Operational Directives and Information Circulars.

How to develop and publish a circular

WA Health has a policy and guideline for the Operational Directive and Information Circular Distribution system. The policy and guideline provides you with information on mandatory requirements for the development, approval, publication and dissemination of circulars in WA Health.

Definitions

Operational Directive
Operational Directives are policy statements that are approved by the Director-General of Health and are mandatory for all WA Health staff to comply with.

Information Circular
Information Circulars are documents that provide advice or guidance within WA’s public health system. ICs are not policy statements, although they may be used to advise the existence or change in status of a policy statement.

Information Access and Disclosure Policy
The Information Access and Disclosure Policy ensures that information within WA Health’s data collections are accessible and available to end users in a secure, consistent and controlled manner.
 
OD 0359/12 (30 January 2012)  
Specialist Outpatient Services Access Policy – Metropolitan Health Services
The prioritisation of outpatients’ appointments is to be based on an individual patient’s clinical requirements, with an emphasis on timely access to care. The Request for Outpatient Appointment Form has been updated to reflect these principles with the changes to the Referral Recommendation section showing routine, urgent or CPAC category 1,2,3,4 or 5.
