Delivering a Healthy WA
WA Cervical Cancer Prevention Program

About us

The WA Cervical Cancer Prevention Program (WACCPP) is part of the National Cervical Screening Program. We aim to reduce the number of cases of cervical cancer in Western Australian women and the resulting death rate.

There are two components of the WACCPP.

WA Cervical Cytology Registry (CCR)

The CCR is bound by the Health (Cervical Cytology Register) Regulations 1991. You can view full documents on the State Law Publisher website (external link).

Health promotion and recruitment

Activities include:

  • raising awareness of the disease and the need for women aged 18-70 to be regularly screened with Pap smears
  • developing and distributing educational and promotional resources
  • promoting Pap smear services and supporting service providers
  • developing, monitoring and evaluating recruitment strategies

We have a range of health promotion strategies for improving cervical screening rates of unscreened and under-screened women in Western Australia.

This includes strategies specific to:

  • Indigenous women
  • culturally and linguistically diverse women
  • women with disabilities
  • lesbians
  • women in rural and remote areas
