Identification of schizophrenia susceptibility genes

The project consists of two parts:

  1. We will collect a large case sample of 1000 patients with schizophrenia and a matched control sample of 1000 non-affected individuals for studying association of schizophrenia with potential susceptibility genes. The sample will have enough power for studying and replicating association of DNA sequence variants with schizophrenia in candidate genes as well as for a genome wide association study.
  2. For fine mapping and identification of candidate susceptibility genes in a previous collected family sample from Indonesia, we will employ in Stage 1 high density SNP-genotyping based on evaluated SNPs from the HapMap database using high throughput genotyping assays. Association will be calculated and SNPs signs of evidence for association with the disorder after correction for multiple testing will be tested in the case control sample ascertained in this project (stage 2).

This is a collaborative project with researchers from the Department of Psychiatry, University of Indonesia. The project is supported by NHMRC Project Grant 513861.
