Investigation of functional implications of a schizophrenia associated non-synonymous nucleotide exchange in the gene for the Phosphatidylinositol, 5 kinase 2alpha (PIP5K2A) gene

These studies aim at investigation of a possible impact of this SNP, which alters asparagine to serine, on mRNA expression, mRNA processing (splicing), protein expression and enzyme function.

To study enzyme function, we are currently   preparing a recombinant protein containing either one of the variants. These will be used for enzyme activity assay by determining phosphorylation levels.

This project is supported by NHMRC Project Grant 404012.
